Masham End of Year Big Meet

Helen and I went out on Sunday with the Lancs arm of the NUKB on a rideout to Masham for the end of year big meet. We met up with the North East and Yorkshire NUKB regions as well in Masham Market Square.

The weather forecast initially was for poor weather early on but it was due to brighten up later. For this reason we decided to leave late and not join the main ride to Masham and instead proceed directly there. We left home and met up with Debs at Boundary Mill in Colne. We then headed on the A56/59 to Skipton where we joined the B6265 to Helen @Masham Grassington. We stopped in Grassington briefly for a comfort break before continuing on the B6265. Just after Pateley Bridge we turned left to continue on the B6265 and soon arrive at our turning at Risplith. It said that the road was closed ahead but we decided to see whether we could get through anyway. Just after Grantley we found that a small bridge had collapsed and we couldn’t get past. However with Debs sat-nav we were able to take a small diversion to get around the problem. We then got back on our original route and continued on to Masham via Kirkby Malzeard and Grewelthorpe. We soon arrived at Masham and were pretty much the first group there, so we got our food orders in early.

Bikes @ Masham We left Masham at around 1:30pm on the A6108 heading for Leyburn, after passing through Middleham we soon turned left onto a cut through road to Wensley that by-passes Leyburn. At this point we joined the A684 and continued on that road all the way to Hawes.

We passed through Hawes and headed over to Ribblehead Viaduct on the B6255. We turned left at Ribblehead Viaduct as usual and headed back to Settle on the B6479. We stopped in Settle for a while to enjoy coffee and cake at the Ye Old Naked Man Café.

We then left Settle and headed back to Clitheroe via Wigglesworth and Sawley and then turned left and went over Pendle Hill and down into Sabden. We then continued on to Simonstone and then followed the A56/M66 home.

Start of Season Big Meet

Helen and I went out with NUKB yesterday for the start of season Big Meet in Masham. It was a good turn out in the end as it looked initially like the Lancs group would be very small.

Masham We went to Clitheroe Services and waited there for the main group to arrive from their meeting point at the Tickled Trout. Once they had arrived we set out for Settle and went on our standard route via Sawley and Wigglesworth. We only stopped in Settle briefly to pick up a few other members before heading off towards Ribblehead Viaduct on the B6479. We then head for Hawes on the B6255, but decided to stop at the Creamery instead as Hawes has been rammed of late.

After the brew stop in Hawes we headed on the A684 towards Leyburn. We turned off just before Leyburn and cut across to the A6108 just before Middleham. We then followed the A6108 all the way to Masham. Due to various reasons we arrived about 1 hour and 20 minutes late so most of the other regions where starting to leave by that point.

Masham After a quite lengthy stop we left Masham on the A6108 towards Ripon. Due to some new roads we got briefly lost in Ripon and the group broke into 2. We left Ripon on the B6265 and followed that to Pateley Bridge. We then continued on the B6265 over Craven Moor to Grassington where we stopped for an ice cream break. While we where at Grassington the rest of the group arrived and we were all together again.

We left the main group at Grassington and with Simmo in tow and headed for home. We headed from Grassington on the B6265 via Threshfield towards Skipton. Just outside Skipton we turned right onto the A59 and followed that for a while before turning off onto the A56 to Colne via Earby. Just after Colne we joined the M65 and then followed that to the A56/M66 junction and home.

Big Meet - Leyburn

Helen and I went out yesterday with NUKB on the end of year big meet, which was held at Leyburn this time.

Helen and I met with a couple of guys at Pilsworth McDonalds and then headed up to met with CJ and the rest guys at Clitheroe services at around 10:00am.

We left Clitheroe at around 10:30am and headed for Skipton on the A59, but soon turned off at Sawley and took our usual route to Settle via Wigglesworth and Rathmell.

We left Settle and took the B6479 through Horton-in-Ribblesdale towards Ribblehead Viaduct. We then turned right at the Viaduct onto the B6255 towards Hawes. I had gone off ahead to have a more progressive run by myself and then waited at Hawes for the rest of the group to catch back up. We left Hawes on the A684 and headed towards Leyburn. We soon arrived in Leyburn and met up with the other guys from the North-East and Yorkshire arms of NUKB.

I left Leyburn with Camsdad and Mick for a more progressive run to Devil’s Bridge. We headed back towards Hawes on the A684. We then headed through Hawes and continued on the A684 to Sedbergh. We had a good run to Sedbergh, although Mick and I got stuck behind a Blackbird who was accelerating hard on the straights. We arrived in Sedbergh were the Bird let us past and then we turned left onto the A683 towards Kirkby Lonsdale. We had a really good run on the A683 and soon arrived at Devil’s Bridge and stopped for a coffee and regrouped up with some of the other regions.

The Lancs run broke up here and I led a small group back to Clitheroe. We left Devils on the A65 towards Skipton and then stopped briefly in Ingleton for fuel. From Ingleton we continued on the A65 before turning off before Clapham and heading over Burn Moor and past Stocks Reservoir. We then turned right onto the B6478 and headed through Slaidburn and then over Waddington Fell and down into Clitheroe. From Clitheroe we followed the A59, A671 and then the A56/M66 back home.

Helen's pillon for the day, Settle the sheep. We spent a decent amount of time chatting with the other regions at Masham before setting off for home. Helen’s wrists had started hurting so we both broke off our previous rides and headed back with CJ and the main Lancs group. We left Masham on the A6108 heading for Middleham. Just after Middleham we turned left and cut across to the A684 to miss out going through Leyburn. We continued on the A684 all the way to Hawes passing through Aysgarth and Bainbridge. The rest of the group stopped in Hawes, but Helen and I continued back to Settle via the Ribblehead Viaduct. We stopped in Hawes for a cream tea at the Ye Olde Naked Man Cafe. While we where there the rest of the Lancs group turned up and also the Yorkshire red run.

Helen and I said farewell to everyone and proceeded home on our own via Rathmell and Sawley. Then onto the A59 past Clitheroe on our way back to Heywood via the M66.

Masham Big Meet

Helen and I went out yesterday with the Lancs arm of the NUKB on a rideout to Masham for the first big meet of the year. We met up with  the North East and Yorkshire NUKB regions as well in Masham Market Square. There was probably around 100+ bikes in the square at 1 point yesterday and to top it all off the weather was nice and sunny all day long.

Clitheroe Services We left home at around 9:15am and met up with DocB and small group at Haslingden Tesco’s on the way up. We left there at around 9:30am and headed up to Clitheroe Services to met up with the rest of the Lancs group. We left Clitheroe just after 10:00am, CJ was leading and Scotsy was bring up the rear as TEC.

We left the service on the A59 heading for Skipton. We soon turned left and headed trough Sawley, Wigglesworth and Rathmell. We then crossed over the A65 and headed into Settle. From there we took the B6479 to Ribblehead Viaduct via Horton-in-Ribblesdale. We then joined my favourite road the B6255 to Hawes. We stopped in Hawes for the first brew of the morning and a nice bacon butty.

Masham Square We left Hawes after our short break and headed on the A684 towards Leyburn. Before getting to Leyburn we cut across on a minor road at Wensley to join the A6108. We headed through Middleham on our way to Masham. We arrived at Masham just before 1:00pm and parked up behind the Yorkshire group who had arrived first.

Masham Square Helen and I found out to our horror that the Kings Arms were no longer doing sandwiches and jacket potatoes on a Sunday anymore. We headed over to 1 of the cafes and Helen had a wrap and I had a Panini. We had a good chat with some of the guys from other regions and at around 2:45pm we headed off.

We left Masham with Scotsy now leading and CJ now being TEC. We headed on minor roads for Kirkby Malzeard. However Scotsy’s satnav took us a strange rout through Grewelthorpe and then again as we got into Kirkby Malzeard. The result was that the group got broken up as someone also failed to mark a junction. A small group headed to Ripon, I turned around and headed through Laverton and then over Dallow and Pateley Moor just joining the B6265 before Pateley Bridge. At Pateley Helen and Bill Bridge I saw Ella and CorgiKev marking a junction and then knew the main group were in front of me. I continued on the B6265 towards Grassington passing by Stump Cross Caverns on the way. I arrived at the carpark in Grassington and met up again with the main group. Helen and I walked to the Spar and I got a much needed ice cream.

As we left Grassington we broke up into 2 groups, the majority headed for Preston and we headed down the B6265 towards Skipton. At Skipton we turned right and took the A59 towards Preston. We then turned left just after Broughton and took the A56 through Earby to Colne. We then jumped on the M65 and headed home via the A56/M66.

Reeth - End of summer big meet

Myself and Helen went on a rideout with Nukb to Reeth toady. CJ led the rideout with Scotsy doing Tec.
Stump Cross Caverns
We met John and Sue in Heywood and then headed up to Clitheroe services via Sabden to meet the rest of the guys for about 10:00am. Everyone arrived and we set off up the A65 towards Skipton. We then turned towards Grassington and then proceeded over to Stump Cross Caverns for a brew.

Leyburn After the brew we mounted up and headed over to Reeth via Masham and Leyburn and landed in Reeth just after 12:00pm. We were the first to arrive, the Northeast lot turned up next and then the Yorkshire group arrived a lot later, with the news that a rider on his Ducati ST4 had gone down on Buttertubs pass. Fortunately he didn't go over the edge and wasn't on his Ducati 999, other than pride he was uninjured. It was an impressive turnout with about 70 bikes in attendance.

Ducati ST4 crash damage
We left Reeth and headed over to Hawes, some of the guys filled up in Hawes. I headed over to Ingleton via the Ribblehead viaduct and then proceeded on to Devil's Bridge. For some reason everyone but CJ turned left at Ribblehead and ended up in Settle, despite having agreed we would be going to Devil's. Masham CJ caught me up at Devil's and we headed down to Caton. Vincent and Marocmille turned up but everyone else had gone home from Settle. I left CJ and headed home via the Trough of Bowland, which I found was closed and followed the Diversion to Clitheroe then went over Sabden and joined the motorway and blasted back home. Another long day of riding, I think I am a glutton for punishment.

NUKB Big Meet at Tan Hill

Tan Hill Inn It was NUKB's big meet at Tan Hill today. The weather was awful when we set out but by the time I got to Gisburn the weather was fine and the roads dry, which it thankfully stayed like all day. There are some great roads up to Tan Hill and we had a decent turnout. Unfortunately one of the NE group came off just after they left Tan Hill and had to be air lifted to hospital, thankfully no long term injuries for anyone just some bad bruises.

Me and Helen managed to pick up some stragglers on the way back down from Tan Hill who had lost their way.
