Short Dales Run
Helen and I went out yesterday with for a short run around the Yorkshire Dales. I had initially planned to go to Hartside, but the roads were still damp early on so we waited till they had dried off a bit before going out.
We set out to Clitheroe to stop at the services to fill up with fuel for the day. We then headed over to Settle on our usual route via Sawley and Wigglesworth. We didn’t stop in Settle and so continued on the B6479 and headed through Horton in Ribblesdale to Ribblehead Viaduct. We turned right at Ribblehead Viaduct on to the B6255 and headed for Hawes, Helen decided that she would have a go on the nine for the run to Hawes. She took it fairly easy although she did get it over on one corner as I managed to get her VFR’s pegs down following her. We then stopped in Hawes for lunch, not many bikes about and absolutely no power rangers on sight.
We left Hawes and headed over Buttertubs Pass to Thwaite. We then headed on the B6270 over Birk Dale to Nateby. In Nateby we turned left and joined the B6259 and headed through Outgill to Garsdale Head. At Garsdale Head we turned left and joined the A684 and headed back to Hawes.
We passed through Hawes and headed over to Ribblehead Viaduct on the B6255. We turned left at Ribblehead Viaduct as usual and headed back to Settle on the B6479. We stopped briefly in Stainforth to use the local toilets. We then passed through Settle and tried the back road via Booths, it is much quicker than going through Settle itself. We then headed back to Clitheroe via Wigglesworth and Sawley and then turned left and went over Pendle Hill and down into Sabden. We then continued on to Simonstone and then followed the A56/M66 home.
